what we need most

What we  long for eludes us mostly because we cannot seem to name it. We can’t name it because we don’t feel it. And we don’t feel it because we are looking for it outside ourselves…

What we long for is to be seen. Not seen for our appearance or status or brilliance. We need to be seen for who we are. But who we are eludes us if we are seeking status or identity. We are not that.

Just as the general is revealed through the specific, the individual is also discovered through the whole. It is through our recognition of our membership to humanity that we are able to sense our own individuality. It is then we are able to see others,  and simultaneously we are revealed to ourselves. We are mirrors to each other through which we are able to sense a human connectedness to life, to others, to our very own self, our relational self.

This search often begins in stillness or silence, as in nature–beyond or within our bodies. Inside that silence we may sense, listen and “hear” that belongingness from which we grow. It is our soil and sun. It is our home.
