About me

I’m an artist and teacher in Brooklyn, NY, interested in learning and being–particularly how a human may, through learning to listen to their unknown, little by little, discover the nature of who they are and what gives them meaning and purpose. And through that inner process of self-discovery within the relational self, how we are connected to each other and LIFE, how we experience ourselves in relation to the universe, our home, the Earth.. Fascinated by our individual interior lives, I’m intent on moving the exploration away from opinion and belief to personal experience. For me, it is a way of opening ourselves to our unknowns, which makes it easier to share our collective experiences as living beings. In this way, we may find more comfort within our selves and therefore with each other.

your voice : from the inside out has always been a part of my life, but only named so in the last fifteen or 20 years, for both my approach to teaching voice and my view that our voice (singing and otherwise) evolves from learning to listen to our self, the part of us that lives within stillness and silence– presence. i think of it as a relationship between your temporal human and the universal, or as a life-long conversation between your known and unknown selves.. Listening, teaching and writing help me discover more clarity, so, this blog is a place for me to listen to myself and others’ responses to hopefully discover clearer language that I hope will inspire a deeper interest in our remarkable interior life and how it relates to LIFE in general.. We can so easily overlook or even avoid it, and yet, long for what can only be accessed through our own attention to it, often believing that what we are missing will be found outside ourselves..But right here, inside ourselves is a heart needing to be held, heard and felt; in return we feel belonging and love. I sense that all else arises from this deep still silent place. And I think of this as our relational self, and your voice : from the inside out.

Your experiences and questions will be grist for the mill and medicine for my being. And yours, I hope. Thanks for being here. I look forward to hearing your questions, thoughts and especially, your experiences.
